• Master’s degree in Art Education 2007, Montclair State University, New Jersey
• 13 years teaching experience in public schools, 4 years creating residencies in Central Oregon (see biography page)

Residencies Offered 2012-2013:

• NEW! Self Portrait Through Symbolism- Grade 3-12, exploration of symbolism of self in famous Mexican murals(Diego Rivera, etc.), artists Frida Kahlo and Marc Chagall, drawing and watercolor, color mixing, composition
  
  
• NEW! Photography, Grades 5-12, digital photography basics, composition, narrative self portraits inspired by artist Cindy Sherman
  
  
• Self Portraits - Grades 3-12,
  drawing and watercolor: facial proportions, watercolor basics, basic color theory, famous Fauvist artists
  
  
• Hybrid Creatures - Grades K-12, observational drawing, basic color theory and painting, animal art of Marc Chagall and Franz Marc

  
  

• Sleeping Gypsy – Grades K-12, narrative painting, inspired by famous artwork of Henri Rousseau, drawing the figure, basic color theory

• Kinetic Puppets - Grades K-12, multi-media portraits, interactive, inspired by Traditional Indonesian and Balinese shadow puppets, as well as contemporary puppets

• The Hills Are Alive - Grades K-12, painting atmospheric perspective, inspired by renown artwork of David Hockney and Grant Wood

• 6th Grade Art and Social Studies - a 3 part unit that combines art with areas of the 6th grade social studies curriculum (Ancient Greece, Ancient China, and Ancient Egypt). Schools may pick one part, or all three (each part requires about 4 sessions). Each part includes a Powerpoint discussion of an overview of famous artworks and how it relates to the life and society of the time period. Projects include Greek art: proportions of the face drawing and collage, Chinese art: kinetic Chinese dragon puppet/sculpture and Egyptian art: a contemporary, personal take on Egyptian tomb painting. These examples of interdisplinary art ed. may be applied to other grades and curriculums for custom designed art units.
  

About Paula’s Residencies:

• The lessons are based on the four essential “disciplines” of progressive art education: art making, art history, art criticism, and art aesthetics (the nature of beauty). These disciplines encompass the elements and principles of design.

• They are interdisciplinary when requested and planned as such

• They are flexible in lesson content and approach

• A residency can be custom designed for your school

Costs:

Fees are reasonable for two reasons: my passionate belief that art education is essential and belongs in our school;
and there is no administrative/office overhead

• Four hours (half day) minimum@ $110.00, full day (8 hours) $200.00. Extra hour $30.00
  
  
• Over four hours consecutive teaching time requires a 30 minute break
  
  
• Teaching hours should include 10 minutes passing time between classes, if lessons move from room to room
